The 2022 US DWEN Dream Tech Contest winner is Khaliah O. Guillory!

Khaliah is a sleep expert and founded Nap Bar, Inc. Her vision is to power boost human potential by reclaiming our rest. She founded Nap Bar in 2019 as the first AI-driven sleep experience for health-conscious professionals, travelers, stay-at-home parents, and entrepreneurs. Its self-care napping experience is both a brick-and-mortar reality and a wellness installation for communities and organizations. Nap Bar is a next-generation competitive advantage for busy people everywhere!

Khaliah recently shared with us how she will use her $40k of new Dell technology and Microsoft software to scale her business, and ultimately awaken the $4 trillion global wellness industry to the intrinsic benefits – and massive human potential – hiding in The Power Nap.

On the power of curiosity

I’m obsessed with sleep. I’ve always made time for a power nap – in my car in a hot garage, in an open conference room, even in the uncomfortable blue chairs at the airport. Literally anywhere. One day, my nap time was interrupted and it inspired “What if?” conversations about nap salons. I couldn’t sleep that night and hit the internet to research. Everything I learned set me on an entirely new course.

On the power of the power move

I was working in a cushy C-suite position at a Fortune 100 company. I was at this intersection in my life where my satisfaction no longer met my contribution in corporate America. And I quickly realized, for me to truly fulfill my divine purpose, I had to take my ladder and literally drag it away from that building and lean it against a building that had my name on it.

On the power of The Power Nap

I stumbled upon a NASA study showing a 26-minute power nap increased the productivity of pilots and astronauts by up to 34 percent and their alertness by 54 percent. In that moment, science validated my own experience and turned my passion for power naps into a viable business proposition.

On the power of the breakthrough

I threw out polls on social media to see if other adults loved naps as much as I do, if they’d visit a nap location, and what would make it appealing. The overwhelming majority affirmed the need. When I learned sleep deprivation leads to $411 billion in US economic losses, my obsession with sleep became my mission for creating positive social impact through business. I built my business plan based on my expertise and their wants and needs.

Now Nap Bar is an AI-driven rest sanctuary so busy humans can rest, recharge and rejuvenate! The goal is for us to be everywhere, globally. Hospitals, convention centers, sporting venues. We’re also coming from the real estate mindset for franchising. As we continue to grow, our new Dell technology and Microsoft 365 + Windows 11 software will keep our team connected, on task and innovating – all while maintaining a meaningful presence in each other’s lives even if we’re thousands of miles apart.

On the power of community

When I read about DWEN, it was a no brainer. I thought, “Oh, God, whatever they need me to do, I’ll do it.” I want to be associated with such cool and dope people! It’s all about community for me.

It’s also important for me show the little girls coming up behind me and watching what I’m doing – who look like me, who come from where I come from – that there are women champions winning with tech. I want them to grab the baton from me one day and continue to blaze the trail; to be inspired  in their own journey and their own path in tech; to disrupt the space – all with community involved and in mind. We’re talking about legacy here. And it really starts with the DWEN community.

No matter how you work, Dell and Microsoft have the right solution for you.
